Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer review

The first part of the game has you building houses for townspeople who have a theme in mind. This is not supposed to be a 50 hour RPG with plot twists and deep narrative all the play time comes from just having fun so the company about play time is lame too. The full Animal Crossing: New Leaf game was $35, but they are trying to charge $40 for one where all you do is decorate homes.

I remember getting very into designing my house, wanting to fill it with all kinds of cool furniture; to make it a reflection of me. Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer has its moments, but overall it can’t escape the feeling of being a superficial game.

It has been created for the sole purpose of entertainment and knowledge.

You can talk to the owners or other people in the buildings who will say one or two generic lines about what they like or what they’re doing but there’s not much to go on after that, unless you want your giraffe teacher to switch roles with the elephant student or so on. Complaining that they give you a theme to work with even though the villagers clearly have themes in animal crossing and this game would be a complete drag without them. Having no clear objective to strive towards, I found I had to give myself a goal; a sense of structure that made the game worth playing.

You join Nook’s Homes, an interior decorating firm that focuses on building houses for the town’s residents. But even then, there's not really any kind of difficulty when it comes to this game. Happy Home Designer can be fun, but can also be very fleeting.I’ve always wanted to be a home decorator. Nintendo hardly said anything about the game before it was released, and I guess that's because there wasn't much to say about it. Every design decision was made to let people run with an idea as far as it can take them even if it goes against the grain.
Answered my own question. Better reading for the win.I had a nasty feeling this would be the case. The most disheartening part of the game, though, are the NPCs who barely seem to exist in this world beyond saying “I like apples, please make me an apple house”.

Made for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Even when I scanned in my amiibo card that came with the game, all I could really do is either build a house for Lyle, who did not even give me a theme to go on, or invite him to another person's house where he’ll hang out and not say anything. But Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer gives me the opportunity to become one without having to lift heavy furniture or pick out the right fake plant to put in a living room. They took the worst part of the Animal Crossing games and tried to make a full game out of it. You can also upload completed houses or building designs to Miiverse and also can view and even visit other people’s houses and buildings. All Rights Reserved.

Heck, even if you forget a requirement Isabelle will politely remind you to add the required furniture to complete the decorating. This was fun, as it was nice seeing all the creative ideas other people had with the same theme. So if you always wanted to give your favourite characters’ homes a flavour of your creative talent, then Happy Home Designer is certain to pop a spring in your step. Then complaining that they don't grade you harshly for your designs. But I didn’t think the experience beyond that would be so superficial and shallow. While the charm of the series is fully represented here, the wit and deeper experiences of the franchise are not, and that leaves me feeling like the game overall is just a shallow title in a series that can do a lot more.I really wanted to like this game but that is kind of what I feared. So I do get why they went with themes for the houses, but it still feels limiting. Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer is far from a bad game, but it is a game that is so laser focused on one aspect of a usually expansive series that it will likely disappoint most players. Draw terrain and paths, place buildings, and trace your in-game map. Not exactly the most interesting use of amiibo cards, I have to say.Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer has its moments, but overall it can’t escape the feeling of being a superficial game.
