I loved this book. There were some occasions when I got a little confused if it was past or present, and I had to re-read a paragraph or two, but the book still deserves 5 stars for a very realistic, albeit sad story. She is dismissed as a senile old woman, but she knows the clues add up.

It’s in these ‘now’ moments when the story is at its most heartbreaking.

Maud writes everything down, to help her remember clues about her missing friend, and she also writes down how she is treated. The Goldfinch: A Novel (Pulitzer Prize for Fiction) It's a good read, the plot of Elizabeth being missing and Sukey's disappearance is almost secondary, a subplot, the real plot is, of course Maud and her decline. Maud has trouble remembering current events in her life, even 5 minutes before, but when she goes back in time to her childhood she remembers a lot.

Via the accumalation of little pieces of evidence that substantiates ,validates Maud's sleuthlike search as much as it gradually sorts through the pieces of the jigsaw in her mind, the reader also is riding shot gun in the turmoil of her emotions and cannot help but will her on to the ultimate crescendic revelation.

I heard this on the audio version and in many ways it was brought to life in a highly realistic and resonant way, as the novel itself is quite conversational in tone- I would thoroughly recommend it and it is one of the best audios I have heard, with real vitality and hugely interesting. That my mother relies on my steady emotions.

I’ll admit I found some of the story a struggle to read as it’s flips into various points in the past and then into the present, and as you’re living the story through Maud’s eyes her worsening mental state adds to the confusion. Best wishes with Elizabeth is Missing. It looks like this form corresponds to Alzheimer's disease slowly. Like you are witness to someone's demise, the loss of themselves. But with her memory fading it is not easy to hold onto the clues as she follows them. A tale which is times laugh out loud increibly funny,next inducing page turning intrigue, a well articulated novel, a great mystery story and with a final conclusion that gratifys the devotion of the reader..confirming "Elizabeth is Missing!" This endearing tale of Maud's plight to cope in a world that is becoming more confusing,whilst clarity of events long ago raise themselves in layers of deepening hues in her everyday struggles,she writes messages on scraps of paper which she keeps in her pockets as reminders for herself.
