I kind of overlooked the part where it said Short Story.A quick and rather impersonal prequel to The Rogue Lawyer. He spoke a different language, and spoke it very well.They watched Danilo Silva for days before they finally grabbed him. Quite enjoyable. Welcome back.

very compelling,legal thriller...well written and recommend to all (paperback! For starters, Patrick Lanigan is, to me, Grisham's least likable protagonist I have read thus far. Nor is there the dispersal of belief that often follows his knockout openings. There is no suspense in the final two-thirds of the book; just extended dialogue, legal procedure, and backroom dealing. and he never calls him by name!Very short but entertaining read, it gives you another angle to the main character who is the protagonist of Rouge Lawyer! Anyway, though it is an entertaining read, this has to be my least favorite of the Grisham novels I've read. He takes a sketchy job as a drug mule for a local dealer and appears to be having much success.

Overall, I was disappointed because I was led to believe that this was one of his best books, and I didn't find it that enjoyable.I'll give this one a grudging "check it out" rating.
Grisham did not disappoint.This is a really fast paced, gripping story more like 'The Firm' & 'The Runaway Jury'. Summer is a great time to lose yourself in a page-turning mystery. It has the requisite guilty pleasure moments of bad guys getting their comeuppances and a smart main character bobbing and weaving his way around the system, but Grisham also makes an attempt at a morality play and this portion of the book never seems fully fleshed out. He is really just an arrogant wise-ass, his development is lacking, and his "midlife crisis" motivation was less than compelling. A must read for all those who like legal thrillers. This gives us an insight into how he came to be partners with "Partner".
